Old Themes Resurrected As Thematic Child Themes

Over at my other site, Theme Lab, I announced the concept of bringing old WordPress themes back to life. Some older themes from WPDesigner, and other popular themes back in the day are no longer supported by their developers.

I proposed the idea to port them as Thematic child themes because Thematic is a free, popular, and open source theme framework where the older themes would be brought new life, so to speak.

The first resurrected theme of one of WPDesigner’s first themes is called Braintied, check it out. It’s a Thematic child theme, so remember how to install a child theme.

Child Themes in the WordPress.org Directory?

If you think WordPress child themes have a place in the WordPress.org theme directory, have you say here. At the present time, only “parent” themes and theme frameworks are allowed, but no child themes.

As long as a parent theme is included in the directory, I don’t see any reason why their child themes shouldn’t be in the directory. Right now a lot of WordPress users are missing out on some great themes because they’re not listed.
