At the present time, only &#8220;parent&#8221; themes and theme frameworks are allowed, but no child themes.</p>
<p>As long as a parent theme is included in the directory, I don&#8217;t see any reason why their child themes shouldn&#8217;t be in the directory. Right now a lot of WordPress users are missing out on some great themes because they&#8217;re not listed.</p>
<p>For a better visual on how some think it should work, <a href="http://developdaly.com/wordpress/child-theme-inclusion-in-the-wordpress-directory/" title="http://developdaly.com/wordpress/child-theme-inclusion-in-the-wordpress-directory/">check out this post</a> or read some more thoughts about it <a href="http://www.themelab.com/2009/11/02/should-child-themes-be-listed-on-wordpress-org/" title="Should Child Themes Be Listed on WordPress.org?">here</a>.</p>
